Requirements and conditions

  • Age: Driver’s age must be not less than 21 years old, for sport cars 25 years old
  • Driving License: UAE residents must present a valid UAE driving license. Tourists should have a valid international driving license, and in some cases, an International Driving Permit (IDP) may be required.
  • Passport: All renters must provide a valid passport for identification purposes.
  • Visa: Tourists need to show a visit visa or entry stamp. Residents should provide a UAE residence visa.

The law in Dubai refers to several situations depending on the type of accident, the damage, and the type of insurance you purchased.

With CDW Insurance

Repairable Damage
  • Red police report (Accident happens due to customer’s fault):
    • No fixed insurance deductible. 10% from the repair cost to be paid. No rental payment for the car repair period.
  • Green police report (Accident happens not due to customer’s fault):
    • Nothing to be paid.
  • Green report against unknown liable party (Accident happens not due to customer’s fault, but the guilty party fled):
    • No fixed insurance deductible. 10% from the repair cost to be paid. No rental payment for the car repair period.
  • No police report (Accident happens and police report not obtained):
    • Bear 100% of the repair cost. No rental payment for the car repair period.
Total Loss/Stolen
  • Red police report (Accident happens due to customer’s fault):
    • No fixed insurance deductible. 20% from a car value to be paid.
  • Green police report (Accident happens not due to customer’s fault):
    • Pay fixed insurance deductible of 10,000 AED.
  • Green report against unknown liable party (Accident happens not due to customer’s fault, but the guilty party fled):
    • No fixed insurance deductible. 20% from the repair cost to be paid.
  • No police report (Accident happens and police report not obtained):
    • Compensate 100% of the car insured value.

    • Pay fixed insurance deductible of 10,000 AED; 20% from the repair cost. Rental payment for the car repair period.
  • Green police report (Accident happens not due to customer’s fault):
    • No fixed or variable deductible to be paid. Compensate only the number of rental days a vehicle is under repair.
  • Green report against unknown liable party (Accident happens not due to customer’s fault, but the guilty party fled):
    • Pay fixed insurance deductible of 10,000 AED. 10% from the repair cost. Compensate the number of rental days a vehicle is under repair.
  • No police report (Accident happens and police report not obtained):
    • Pay insurance deductible of 10,000 AED. Compensate 100% of the car insured value.
Total Loss/Stolen
  • Red police report (Accident happens due to customer’s fault):
    • Pay fixed access fee of 10,000 AED; 20% from the car insured value.
  • Green police report (Accident happens not due to customer’s fault):
    • Pay fixed insurance deductible of 10,000 AED.
  • Green report against unknown liable party (Accident happens not due to customer’s fault, but the guilty party fled):
    • Pay insurance deductible of 10,000 AED; Compensate 100% of the car insured value.
  • No police report (Accident happens and police report not obtained):
    • Pay fixed insurance deductible of 10,000 AED. Pay 20% from the car insured value.

More Information

  • Damage to tires, rims, windshields are not covered by any insurance.
  • Flood car is not covered by any insurance. Customer is liable to pay for 100% repair cost against the invoice.
  • For drivers below 25 y.o for any insurance type, an additional 10% repair cost to be paid in case of any accident.
  • Driving, Smoking, Desert Driving, Overspeeding and other prohibited activities are subject to charges as per the rental agreement regardless of the insurance type.
  • Insurance type needs to be specified before the rental actually starts. CDW has to be paid in advance for the entire rental duration.

When driving in Dubai, it’s essential to follow the rules to avoid fines and inconveniences. Here are some key points to keep in mind:

  • Speeding: If you’re traveling to Abu Dhabi, note that the +20 km/h leeway doesn’t apply there. Fines range from 1,500–3,000 AED.
  • Using a Phone While Driving: Cameras detect phone use behind the wheel. Fine: 800 AED.
  • Sharp Lane Changes Without Signaling: Sudden lane changes and reckless driving can result in fines of up to 100,000 AED.
  • Speeding Outside City Limits: Hidden police patrols monitor speed in rural areas. Violators face fines of 1,500–3,000 AED, plus parking and tow truck fees if the car is impounded.

Additional Costs to Consider:

  • Mileage Limits: Daily limit – 250 km (10 AED/km for excess). Premium cars like Chevrolet Tahoe and Cadillac Escalade have a daily limit of 300 km. Weekly limit – 1,500 km, Monthly limit – 4,000 km. Excess mileage: 15 AED/km.
  • Smoking in Cars: Fine – 1,500 AED.
  • Paid Parking: Parking fees start at 2 AED and must be paid via SMS to 7275 in the format: CAR NUMBERZONE NUMBERNUMBER OF HOURS. Failure to pay incurs fines of 150 AED + 20 AED state fee + 80 AED commission.
  • Fuel and Salik (Toll Roads): Returning a car without a full tank costs 250 AED for half a tank and 500 AED for an empty tank.

Prohibited Activities: Racing, off-roading, drifting, and driving in restricted desert areas are strictly forbidden, with fines reaching up to 20,000 AED, plus repair costs.

There is no need to pay a deposit, but at the time of renting you declare that in case of damage or fines you undertake to pay as detailed above.

You must return the vehicle with the same fuel level as provided at the time of delivery.

Failure to comply with this rule may result in a compensation fee of up to 800 AED.
